BEVERLY HILLS (USA) - Canadian director James Cameron has won Sunday night the prize for best director for "Avatar" at the 67th Golden Globes ceremony in Beverly Hills (California, West).

  •    James Cameron, 55, had already won the Golden Globe for best director in 1997 for "Titanic" the biggest success of world cinema to date.

The trophy is also the first important award obtained by "Avatar", a fresco of science-fiction 3D Tinted Ecology, which took James Cameron more than ten years of work and has risen over $ 1.3 billion dollars in revenue worldwide.

James Cameron competed against his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow ("Minesweeper"), Clint Eastwood ("Invictus"), Jason Reitman ("Up In The Air") and Quentin Tarantino ("Inglourious Basterds").

"Avatar" is also a candidate for the Golden Globe for best dramatic film.
The Golden Globes, awarded in Beverly Hills by the Association of foreign press in Hollywood, are considered the most important rewards of American cinema after the Oscars, which this year will be held on March 7.
