Tunisia: JCC Tanit d'Or for "Microphone" by Egyptian Ahmad Abdallah
TUNIS - "Microphone" by Egyptian Ahmad Abdullah won the Golden Tanit supreme reward of Carthage Film Festival (JCC), the 23rd edition was closed Sunday night in Tunis.
- "The Tanit d'Or was awarded to this film for its boldness, its youth, the effectiveness of its music and the richness of its characters in a society that refuses to grant young musicians the place they claim" , said the president of the grand jury, the Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck.
- "Microphone" tells the story of young Khalid who returns to Alexandria after years of absence and who meets by chance in the Egyptian city of Hip Hop singers on the sidewalks, rock musicians on the roofs of old buildings and young people who paint graffiti panels on the walls at night.
- The film depicts the artistic life of young people living on the margins and who seek to be recognized.
- "We are very pleased with this award, which has enormous significance for the whole team of the film screened for the Arab-African public for the first time. It's a good start for us," told AFP the director of Microphone.
- The silver Tanit was awarded to "Trip to Algiers” by Algerian Abdelkarim Bahloul director who also won the audience award, while Moroccan-Daoud Aoulad Syad received the Bronze Tanit for his film "The Mosque".
- "Every day is a celebration" of the Lebanese filmmaker Dima El-Horr won the Special Jury Prize.
