Algiers International Book Fair of: hundreds of religious titles banned
Algiers- More than 400 religious titles were banned in the 16th International Book Fair of Algiers (Sila), which is to open Wednesday, said Sunday the director of books and reading at the Algerian Ministry of Culture, Rachid Hadj Nacer.
- "Reserves have been issued for more than four hundred titles. Most of these books are religious books," said Mr Hadj Nacer on the public radio channel III.
He said that decisions concerning the religious books are made by a reading committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The International Book Fair of Algiers is one of the main cultural events in the country. It will be held until October 1. The Islamic book takes a prominent place.
According to Mr. Hadj Nacer, more than 600 publishers representing some forty countries should participate in this 16th edition of Sila. Lebanon will be this year's honour.
This annual event usually attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors attracted by the affordable works on display.
