  • GDF Suez (Gaz de France Suez) and Algerian oil company Sonatrach announced on Tuesday that the production of Touat gas field near Adrar (south west) in Algeria, was scheduled for 2013 in agreement with the Algerian Agency for the recovery of hydrocarbon resources (Alnaft).

“Work will begin in 2009 for a planned production in 2013, the groups announced in a joint communiqué stating that seven wells have been drilled since the beginning of the exploration campaign begun in 2003.

In total, this project represents an investment of $ 1.5 billion for GDF Suez, said a spokesperson of the group.

This field, which the production was originally scheduled for 2011, should eventually produce 4.5 billion m3 per year of natural gas.

The project foresees the development of ten deposits on 3000 km2, with the drilling of forty production wells.

A marketing agreement gives Sonatrach the sale of all gas produced, specify the two groups.

The French group had obtained in January 2003 the rights of exploration license in Touat and became operator with 65% of the project, together with Sonatrach, the Algerian national who has the remaining 35%.
