160 million Euros for port security
ALGIERS- Algeria has decided to invest 160 million Euros to improve the management and security of its ports, according to the Algerian Transport Minister Amar Tou.
- This package released by the State will implement a new system of management of maritime and port security, he said.
This device, called integrated safety for the management and maritime and port safety and exchange data (VTMIS), will be operational in 2012, according to the minister.
Its implementation was entrusted to a consortium composed of two Swedish companies and a Korean company. It will do “all the electronic commerce,” said Tou.
The device will also strengthen monitoring of docks and harbours ports through a network of cameras and to manage Algerian and foreign national vessel traffic along the coast, up to a distance of 40 nautical miles (70 km).
