Algeria: 45.4% decline in exports during the 11 months of 2009
ALGIERS - Algeria exported 39.5 billion dollars during the first eleven months of 2009, against 72.41 billion dollars during the same period of 2008, a decrease of 45.40%, said Monday the National Centre for Informatics and Statistics (CNIS).
- Imports of Algeria have reached 35.27 billion dollars during the first eleven months of 2009 against 36.05 billion dollars during the same period of 2008, a decrease of 2.17%, said the CNIS to the Algerian press agency APS.
Trade balance of Algeria increased from 36.35 billion dollars during the eleven months of 2008 to just 4.2 billion dollars during the same period of 2009, added the same source.
Hydrocarbons represent 97.45% of Algerian exports, i.e. 38.52 billion dollars during the first eleven months of 2009, down 45.40% over the same period of 2008, said the CNIS.
From January to November 2009, Algeria exported one billion dollars of non-oil products, according to the CNIS.
Algeria has taken in July a series of measures to reduce the import bill which include the establishment of documentary credits as the sole means of payment for imports.
