Algeria: protection of water ressources in the South
Adrar (Algeria)- Water Resources Minister Abdelmalek Sellal insisted Thursday in Adrar on the necessity to preserve water resources in the country's south.
- It is a matter of water management and preservation, and not of water availability, the minister said at a press briefing on the sidelines of a two-day visit to the province of Adrar (1543-km south of Algiers). There is an important underground water reservoir in Adrar, whose population doesn't suffer from drinking water shortage, Sellal said. The minister stressed the necessity to develop water supply and management mechanisms, with a view to avoiding wasting and relevant serious ecological problems, such as the upwelling phenomenon in the southern provinces of Ouargla and El-Oued.
