Algeria/EU: sixth round of negotiations on tariff elimination
ALGIERS- Algeria and the European Union (EU) began Monday in Algiers the sixth round of negotiations on tariff elimination, provided by their Association Agreement, in force since 2005, said sources close to the negotiations cited by the APS news agency.
- In the fifth round held in June in Brussels, Algeria and the EU could not reach an agreement to defer from 2017 to 2020 the schedule tariff elimination. The negotiations come up against the industrial side.
- The Association Agreement provides for the gradual dismantling of two lists of European products imported in Algeria, one of which will be completely dismantled in 2012 and the second in 2020.
- The agreement, however, gives both parties the opportunity to freeze for three years the implementation of the decommissioning if the trade is unbalanced and only benefits one party.
