  • Algerian fishermen will receive the guaranteed minimum wage (SNMG), i.e. 18,000 dinars, during breeding of fish, during which fishing is prohibited, has announced Abdallah Khanafou, Minister of Fisheries.
  • The fishermen receive a monthly compensation of 18,000 dinars (SNMG) during that period, said Minister of Fisheries and Fish Resources, adding that the country has registered a record production of sardines during the month of September, despite an overall decline in Fish production at this time.
  • According to the minister, fish production has lowered by 20%. An assessment of the country's resources of fish is conducted to learn more about stocks. The Minister considers that the resource, which is renewable, is not inexhaustible and therefore must be well managed to ensure the sustainability of the activity.
  • Algeria has significant resources of pelagic species such as sardines, anchovies and sole. These constitute 80% of national production, the minister said.
  • The minister however regretted that Algeria has not been able to catch its quota of tuna given by the International Commission for Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). The share of Algeria is 418 tons of tuna.
