  • The satirical French weekly "Charlie Hebdo" was set on fire, following the release Wednesday of a special issue entitled "Sharia Hebdo", angering Muslims around the world.
  • This is not the first time this weekly magazine incites to violence and intolerance, since in 2006 it republished the cartoons of the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten on the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH).
  • In September 2005, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published 12 caricatures of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), causing anger among Muslims worldwide, who see these caricatures blasphemous.
  • Several thousand Muslims demonstrated in Copenhagen, and Muslim leaders asked Denmark for an apology. Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador to Copenhagen, while Danish goods were boycotted, including dairy products. On the internet, several Danish sites were attacked by Muslim hackers.
  • The French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, which was sinking due to lack of readership, found there the opportunity to make a big promotion. It republished the same cartoons, supposedly in the name of freedom of the press, adding fuel to the fire.
