Morocco: Developing the North to end smuggling

The development of northern Morocco will put an end to smuggling from Sebta and Melillia (Spanish enclaves in northern Morocco), said Friday the Minister of Industry and Commerce Ahmed Reda Chami.

  •     “There were a lot of smuggling before but with the development of the north (Morocco), it will no longer exist, he said in Casablanca to a group of journalists.

The economic model (in Sebta and Melillia) will be difficult to maintain in the future and Morocco will continue to develop its northern provinces, it is very important.”

The Moroccan businessmen regularly complain about smuggling from Sebta and Melillia, estimating that it causes annual losses in billions of dirhams to the national economy.
