The 6th edition of the festival of world cinema organized by the Polisario began Tuesday evening and for five days in the Saharans refugee camp ...Dakhla,... near Tindouf (south-western Algeria).

  •     Some 500 participants including artists, intellectuals and the media from several countries in Africa, Europe and Latin America are participating in the festival under the theme ‘A gesture of solidarity, a testimony for the freedom and a look to the future,’ according to the Polisario.

Sixty-six African films (33 Algerian) and Europe will be screened during the five days, as well as documentaries on Western Sahara realized by young Saharans.

Former Spanish colony, Western Sahara was annexed in 1975 by Morocco, which offers a wide autonomy under its sovereignty and refuses independence.

The Polisario demands a referendum on self-determination in which independence would be an option.
