Italy: arrest of two alleged French members of Al Qaeda
The Italian police arrested in Bari (south) two members of Al Qaeda, French citizens accused of belonging to a terrorist cell that was preparing attacks in France and England, announced Tuesday the agency Ansa.
- The Prefecture of Bari, contacted by the press, was unable to confirm the information in the immediate future.
The two men, a former imam in Belgium, Bassam Ayachi, 63, a Syrian who obtained French citizenship and a French aged 34, Raphaël Gendron, according to the Italian agency.
They had planned and organized terrorist attacks and guerrilla actions, according to the accusations made by the two magistrates in charge of the case, Roberto Rossi and Francesca Romana, the Ansa reported citing the airport of Paris Roissy Charles - de Gaulle as one of the targets of the two alleged terrorists.
