Swine flu: New cases in Egypt

image

Just a week after detecting the first H1N1 flu virus in a 12-year-old American girl, Egypt has declared the dormitory of the American University in Cairo quarantined.

  • In the upmarket neighborhood of Zamalek, stand the masked police guards with large barriers just in front of the AUC’s dormitory quarantined for 24 hours as two American students tested positive for the airborne virus, and a third has been hospitalized as a precaution with a fever.

  • The Ministry of Health has obtained samples from all residents of the dormitory and those results are expected later today.

  • Egypt -the most populous Arab country and the most affected by the H5N1 bird flu virus- has recently increased the surveillance measures at the airport in order to prevent the arrival of any more H1N1 cases.
