USA: the detainee Abou Zoubayda ...nearly died... under torture

Abou Zoubayda suspected by the Americans of being responsible for the terrorist network Al Qaeda, ...nearly died four times... under torture when he was interrogated by the CIA, according to new documents revealed Monday by a U.S. organization.

  •     “After months of suffering and torture, physical and mental, they were not interested in the injuries they had inflicted to me, to my eye, my stomach, my bladder, to my left thigh and my genitals. They did not even care that I almost died of these injuries; the doctors told me that I almost died four times,” says the inmate.
  •     The American Association for the Defense of Civil Liberties (ACLU) obtained through a lawsuit that the CIA publishes papers in which several detainees of “high interest” tell their interrogations in secret prisons of the American Central intelligence Agency by which they passed before arriving at Guantanamo under the Bush administration.
  •     “This is what I understand of what said to me (the interrogator for the CIA): ‘you're not American, you're not on American soil, so you are not protected by the Constitution’" says Mohammed al-Nashiri, accused of involvement in the bombing of the USS Cole, which had caused 17 deaths in 2000.
  •     These statements are taken from the hearings before a military court charged under the Bush presidency, to decide which Guantanamo detainees should be treated as “enemy combatants”, which was sufficient to justify their imprisonment for an indefinite period.
  •     These hearings were closed to the lawyers and the general public.
  •    “In the previously published versions of these documents, the CIA has deleted any reference to ill-treatment,” the ACLU said in a statement, adding that some were still blackened in documents published Monday.
