- RABAT-The situation of human rights in Morocco is characterized by the gap between official rhetoric and actual practice of the apparatus of the state, “said Wednesday the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH, independent).
In its annual report on 2008, the AMDH stresses that justice is “the cause of daily violations of the rights of citizens”.
“The policy of the State is experiencing a downgrading of the rights acquired,” adds the report of the AMDH, the oldest organizations of human rights in Morocco.
“Many cases cited in our last report, persist in 2008 and in particular the abduction, torture, arbitrary arrests, political trials, of the press and repression of freedoms,” adds the document, released at a press conference in Rabat.
In its report, very severe for the authorities, AMDH declared have registered, “as in previous years, the imprisonment of human rights activists, demotion of the situation in the prison environment, the deterioration of economic rights, social and cultural rights of children, the escalation of violations of the rights of immigrants from sub-Saharan regions and asylum seekers.”
