Obama to Ahmadinejad: ...We will not wait indefinitely...
L'Aquila (Italy) - The American President, Barack Obama, Friday warned Iran that the international community would not wait indefinitely
- The American President, Barack Obama, Friday warned Iran that the international community would not wait indefinitely for a response to his offer of dialogue on the nuclear issue, and described the post elections events “terrible.”
“We will not wait indefinitely and allow the development of nuclear weapons, the violation of international treaties, and we wake up one day to find ourselves in a worse position without being able to act,” he said at a press conference after the G8 summit in Italy.
“My hope is that the Iranian leaders will be watching the final declaration of the G8 and that the position of the world is clear,” he added.
The U.S. president also stressed that the summit of L'Aquila was not the forum for making new sanctions against Iran.
“We will review the Iranian position” at the next summit of the G20 in September in the United States, he explained.
“The international community said that there was a door to a dialogue that Iran can go to lowering tensions and join fully in the concert of nations.”
“If Iran chooses not to cross the gate, then the G8 countries should worry about and I think many others would say also that we need to take additional steps,” said Barack Obama.
Despite orders to the United Nations not to do so, Tehran is pursuing a uranium enrichment program, asserting that it has a civil purpose, while Westerners are convinced of its military.
The U.S. president also described as “terrible” what happened in Iran after the controversial re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
“We remain seriously concerned about the terrible events surrounding the presidential election in Iran,” he said.
The G8 has demonstrated “unity” with a “strong condemnation” of the post-repression of peaceful demonstrators as “the violation of international standards,” said Barack Obama.
“What we have achieved is exactly what we wanted which is a declaration of unity and a strong condemnation of the terrible treatment of peaceful demonstrations following the elections in Iran as some behaviours that violate basic international norms” said the American president.
Concerning these standards, he cited “the embassy attacks, the arrest of personal diplomatic, obstacles against journalists.”
“We had a consensus on this statement, including Russia,” he commended.
The movement of contest of the presidential slowed in Tehran facing repression and intransigence of the authorities, but a month later, it has not disappeared.

The double standards and hypocrisy of the US and the UN should not be ignored by the world, and is the very reason that Iran needs nuclear bombs. The US and UN need to get rid of Israel's nuclear bombs before trying to deny Iran its right to nuclear bombs. Until that happens, Pres. Ahmadinejad needs to get nuclear bombs for defense and to equalize the balance of power in the Middle East.
