RABAT- A major network of drug trafficking was dismantled in several cities of Morocco with the arrest of sixteen suspected barons of drugs; said Friday in Rabat a security source.

  •     "Sixteen drug barons have been arrested in recent days over the national territory by the police as part of government policy in the fight against drug trafficking," said the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.

These people - whose identities were not specified - were searched for their "involvement in drug trafficking in particular that of hard drugs," according to the same source.

The quantity of drugs seized will be specified later, the same source said.

In this arrest, the police carried out the seizure of a large quantity of hard drugs and a set of forged documents consisting of identity cards and driving licenses.

A lot of equipment and vehicles used by these bands were also confiscated, the source added.

A police source said that some suspected traffickers were arrested in the regions of Nador and Tetouan (north).

Members of the network should be presented in the next few days before the court of Casablanca (100 km south of Rabat).
