Al-Qaeda, a "metastasis" on the Mauritanian body
PARIS- Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (Aqmi), which claimed the suicide attack on 8 August against the French embassy in Nouakchott, is a "metastasis" foreign to Mauritania, said Wednesday Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Mouknass, Mauritanian foreign minister.
- The terrorism of Al Qaeda is a "behaviour completely unrelated to the Mauritanian people" is a "metastasis." "This terrorist metastasis in the body of Mauritania must be stopped," she said in an interview with news channel France 24.
"We must put a fresh strategy in the fight against poverty and ignorance, and we must also deal effectively and with less violent. It is a hard, difficult, but certainly the next few days will prove that it is effective, "she added.
The claim of the Aqmi is accompanied, according to the American centre monitoring Islamist websites (SITE), a photograph of the bomber, identified as Musa Abu Obeida al-Basri, who lived in the Basra area in the capital of Mauritania. The photograph shows a man wearing the traditional dress of Mauritania.
The author of the attack has died in the explosion of the load he was carrying and that only slightly wounded two French policemen and a Mauritanian woman.
The Aqmi states, according to the SITE, that the attack was a response to attacks by "Crusaders", especially France, and Mauritanian leaders against Islam and Muslims.
