A man tried in Abu Dhabi for alleged links with Al-Qaeda
ABU DHABI - A man suspected of links with a group supported by Al Qaeda in Iraq is tried in Abu Dhabi for "terrorism", reported Tuesday a local newspaper.
- The Lebanese-American citizen Naji Hamdan, 43, "maintained direct links with Ansar al-Sunnah through (electronic) communications with members of Al Qaeda," said the daily Gulf News quoted a statement from Attorney state security.
The third sentencing hearing was held Monday before the U.S. Supreme Court in the presence of Naji Hamdan, accused of involvement in cases relating to "terrorism," the newspaper said.
The defendant pleaded not guilty at a hearing in June when he was admitted giving money to Al Taqwa, an institution charged to finance operations of Osama bin Laden, said Gulf News.
Lawyer Naji Hamdane asked the judge to adjourn the trial until September 14, the newspaper added, without specifying whether his request was accepted.
