Swine flu killed more than 2,800 people worldwide
GENEVA - The H1N1 flu has killed at least 2837 people since the emergence of the new virus in March, said Friday the World Health Organization (WHO).
- "There are now at least 2837 deaths which can be attributed to the H1N1 pandemic virus," told the press Gregory Hartl, spokesman for WHO.
This represents an increase of 652 deaths compared to the previous report published a week ago by the organization.
The increase in deaths is due to the increasing number of people who contract the virus, not a transfer of it to a more virulent form, noted Mr. Hartl.
"No, the virus has not become more virulent. Only the number of cases is increasing," he said.
