Al-Jazeera broadcast a video of the Hamas leader assassinated in Dubai

DUBAI - The satellite channel al-Jazeera broadcast a video Sunday in which the official of Hamas, killed recently in Dubai, narrates his role in the kidnapping and liquidation of two Israeli soldiers during the first intifada.

  •    The channel gave no details on the date or place of filming of this video in which Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, died January 20 in a hotel in Dubai, is masked.

  •    He recounts how, during the first intifada (December 1987-1993), he had "planned to kill Israeli soldiers in the Ghaza strip.

  •    Al-Mabhouh gives details of the first operation, February 15, 1989, stating that he had disguised as religious Jews and others of his comrades to abduct the soldier Avi Sasportas, who was then shot and buried in the Ghaza strip.

  •    The second soldier, Ilan Saadon was abducted on May 3rd 1989 while he was hitchhiking south of Tel Aviv and wasdriven to Ghaza strip where he was also killed.

  •    Sasportas's body was found in April 1989 while that of Saadon was found seven years later.

  •    The leader of Hamas said he had been arrested and tortured on several occasions since 1987 for his role in the Intifada and the flow of weapons into the Ghaza strip.

  • He says he was victim of at least three assassination attempts, but said he had "flair" to escape his attackers, and they called him "the fox" for that.

  •    "I'm always on my guard, but God alone decides the duration of our life. I chose a path where I know the price, I'd be honored to be a martyr," he says

  •    Hamas has accused Israel of having assassinated Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh, 50, a founder of its military wing. The Chief of Dubai Police said he would launch an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if the Mossad was responsible for the assassination.
