Al-Jazeera and Al Arabiya communications equipment seized in Yemen
SANAA - Yemeni authorities have announced in a statement they had seized transmission equipment of Arab satellite channels of continuous information Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya when anti-government demonstrations in the south are amplifying.
- "The satellite transmission equipment SNG, used by the channels Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya and not reported to the Ministry of Information, have been seized," said a spokesman for the Yemeni Ministry of Information in a statement published late Thursday.
He added, according to the statement issued by Saba agency that this equipment has been seized "in a legal manner" and that the directors of offices of the two channels in Sanaa were informed beforehand. They will be "returned to their senders," added the text.
The introduction of such facilities in Yemen "should not serve to unsettle and to amplify the events in order to harm the public order as was the case for Al-Jazeera," added the spokesperson.
"Al-Jazeera recently aired footage presenting them as news, which was a fraud and an encouragement to separatist elements and saboteurs," he said.
