WASHINGTON - A son of Osama bin Laden called on Tehran to release several members of his family, who he believes are under house arrest in Iran, according to a letter released Sunday.

  •    The letter posted online by (the Global Islamic Media Front), depicted as the propaganda wing of Al Qaeda and led by the U.S. central monitoring Islamist websites SITE, and seems to be that of Khalid bin Laden.
The latter, speaking personally to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, asked him to intervene to free the members of his family.
"After the attack of the crusaders (Americans and their allies) against Afghanistan ... they (the members of the bin Laden family), most of whom were women and children, were forced to enter Iran by informal means," says the letter.
The son of the leader of the terrorist network Al-Qaeda, accuses Iran of having gathered an undetermined number of family members of bin Laden.
"They repeatedly asked to leave Iran and have as a result, they have been beaten and silenced," says Khalid bin Osama bin Laden.
"Were they not weakened enough by the fact they find themselves as strangers in a foreign country, far from home and their families, while being pursued by international forces of unbelief?" says the letter.
Last year in late December 2009, the Saudi daily Asharq Al-Awsat had indicated that part of the family of the head of Al-Qaeda -18 people in total, whose trace had been lost since the attacks of 11 September, lived in Iran under house arrest.
In January 2010, a daughter of bin Laden, Iman, 17, after escaping the vigilance of his Iranian guards, had fled to the Saudi Embassy in Tehran. The Saudi charge d'affaires in Tehran then confirmed her presence to Asharq al-Awsat.
