"Unbreakable bond" between the United States and Israel

WASHINGTON - The White House said Tuesday that between the United States and Israel exist "unbreakable ties" despite the recent crisis of confidence between the two countries.

  •    Welcoming the "mature bilateral relations" between the United States and Israel, the spokesman for the White House, Robert Gibbs acknowledged that there was currently "disputes" between the two allies.
But these issues "do not destroy the indestructible ties we have with the Israeli government and the Israelis about their security," Gibbs said during his daily briefing.
The March 9 announcement of the Israeli decision to build new homes in a neighbourhood settlement in annexed east Jerusalem, has triggered anger among Palestinians who have indicated they would not return to the negotiating table without a total stop of Israeli settlement.
This announcement has been made during the visit to Jerusalem of U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, supposed to revive the peace process, which has caused a serious crisis between Israel and the United States.
The United States wanted a "formal response" from Israel to their criticism of new construction in Jerusalem.
Referring to U.S. attempts to revive peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, Mr. Gibbs noted that "throughout this process, we hoped to create the kind of trust between the two leading parties to sit down and discuss these issues directly.
"What complicates it, which way whatsoever, we condemn it. Which way whatsoever," insisted Mr. Gibbs.
