NOUAKCHOTT - Mauritania has disapproved the selection of Mali's capital to host the next Sahel-Saharan security summit decided by the foreign ministers of seven countries in the region, according to an official statement received by AFP Friday.

  •    "If Mauritania is to agree on the principle of holding the summit, it judges that it was premature to fix the place" (Bamako), said the Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"To do this," Nouakchott" did not sign "the statement issued by the heads of diplomacy of seven countries in the region, who met March 16 in Algiers.
They then stressed the "importance" of the organization "as soon as possible in Bamako of the Conference of Heads of State on peace, security and development in the Sahel-Saharan region", postponed on several occasions 2009.
This statement of Mauritania comes amid diplomatic row with Mali.
End of February, Algiers and Nouakchott had recalled their ambassadors in Bamako, to protest against the release in Mali of four terrorists who were claimed by Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in exchange for the release (February 23) of the French hostage Pierre Camatte.
Now, the Maghreb branch of Al-Qaeda calls for release of imprisoned terrorists in Nouakchott against the release of two Spaniards kidnapped in November in Mauritania and held hostage in northern Mali.
