The radical cleric al-Aulaqi called American Muslims to rebel
DUBAI - The radical Yemeni imam Anwar al-Aulaqi called in an audio message American Muslims to rebel against their government, which "leads the war against Islam and Muslims".
- "For Muslims in the United States, here is what I have to say, how can you be loyal to a government that wages war against Islam and Muslims?" Says the imam in the message, excerpts of which were released Thursday by the U.S. center for monitoring Islamist websites SITE and CNN.
"How can your conscience allow you afford to peacefully coexist with a nation that is responsible for the tyranny and crimes committed against your brothers and sisters?" asked al-Aulaqi, who also holds U.S. citizenship.
"I was born in the United States, I lived there for 21 years (...) but the U.S. invasion on Iraq and the ongoing U.S. aggression against Muslims, I could not reconcile the fact of being a Muslim and live in the United States, "said the imam, who would be a refugee in Chabwa province in eastern Yemen.
"I have come to the conclusion that jihad against America is a duty for me, as for every Muslim who can do it," he said.
He paid tribute to Nigerian Abdulmutallab Umar Farouk, author of the failed attack against a U.S. plane on Christmas Day, claimed by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQPA).
Al-Aulaqi also accused the Obama administration to have "promised transparency but have not been faithful to his promises."
"What is the interest for the American people to suffer to support Israel and support the Al Saud family (ruling family in Saudi Arabia) and the monarchs of the Gulf?" Has he asked.
The cleric, believed to be linked to AQPA has gained some notoriety for having corresponded by email with the American commander Nidal Hassan who had fired in November 2009 on soldiers at Fort Hood (Texas), killing 13. He then said approving the attack.
