Afghanistan: 15 tankers burnt after a raid and death of "civilians"
KABUL - A demonstration erupted Sunday in Afghanistan when the tribesmen torched 15 trucks while protesting against the death of civilians during a military night raid, local officials said.
- Col. Ghulam Mustafa, police chief of Logar province south of Kabul, told AFP that U.S. and Afghan troops had launched a raid in the night against a group of buildings and that three men, identified as rebels, were killed during this operation.
- For its part, NATO force (ISAF) in Afghanistan said a joint patrol had entered a complex early Sunday in the village of Nagar and had "captured a Taliban commander and killed several insurgents."
- The patrol was then "confronted by armed individuals" expressing "hostile intent" that were "killed by bullets," said the ISAF in a statement.
- On Sunday, hundreds of tribesmen protested in the streets of Puli Alam, the capital of Logar, chanting anti-American slogans and claiming that those killed and arrested in the raid were ordinary villagers.
- The manifesntants then burned 15 trucks passing by, said Colonel Mustafa, adding that rockets had been fired at the vehicle from the crowd.
