Morocco: French wanted for terrorism
RABAT - A French national is subject to a search by Moroccan police for his "involvement" in the alleged network of 24 "Islamists linked to Al Qaeda, whose dismantling was announced Monday in Rabat, a judicial sources said Wednesday in Rabat.
- "This man of Moroccan origin and named Ahmed Sahnouni is being searched," the source said.
- "He is suspected of directing the cell from France," said the source.
- On Monday, the Moroccan Interior Ministry announced the dismantling in Morocco of a "terrorist network linked to al-Qaeda and composed of 24 members. It "was about to commit crimes and acts of sabotage against the security and interests in Morocco."
- The cell was recruiting "Moroccan militants to send to areas of tension, particularly in Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and the Sahel-Saharan Africa", according to the Interior Ministry.
- According to court sources, the "24 members were arrested in mid-April in the cities of Casablanca, Berrechid (west) and Kenitra (40km north of Rabat)." They were headed in Morocco by a Moroccan named Youssef Toubaie" the source said.
- "Three of the 24 members were arrested at Mohammed V airport (Casablanca) as they were preparing to leave the territory to Somalia," it added.
