Middle East: Direct dialogue will begin Thursday at 10:00 am (local time)

The first session of direct talks in 20 months between Israelis and Palestinians will start at 10:00 am (14:00 GMT) Thursday at the State Department said Wednesday U.S. diplomacy.

  •    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will turn the floor early in the session to the media, before continuing their discussions without the presence of journalists.
       The meeting, preceded Wednesday night by a dinner at the White House by President Barack Obama, should last about three hours.
       The U.S. envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell, then will give a press conference at the State Department on the progress of negotiations.
