A cold wave struck on Friday Tunisia with rain and snowfall in the hills north-west border region of Algeria where the authorities have sent aid to poor families, according to official sources.

  •     Temperatures close to zero have been recorded in several regions with rain storm accompanied by winds sometimes exceeding 100 km/h, said the National Meteorological Institute.

Several centimetres of snow covered Friday the hills of Drahem Ain, Tabraka and Kef in the North-west and sandy winds hampered visibility on the roads of southern desert.

Bad weather will continue Saturday with low temperatures and rain, hail in some areas and swirls of sand in the extreme south.

For the second time in less than a month, the authorities have distributed aid to the poorest of the inhabitants of mountainous areas bordering Algeria.

As a result of bad weather in mid-February, relief consisting of blankets, clothing and food has been dispatched to several areas affected by the cold.
