Tunisia: three UGTT ministers withdrew from the government
TUNIS - The three ministers belonging to the Tunisian Central Union UGTT, resigned Tuesday from the transitional government formed the day before, at the request of their organization, have told AFP two of them
- "We withdrew from the government on the appeal of our union," said Houssein Dimassi who was appointed, on the eve, minister of Training and Employment.
- The General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT), a powerful Tunisian trade union federation who played a major role in the events that caused the downfall of President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, had decided on Tuesday morning "not to recognize the new government."
- "It does not interest us to be part of a government that does not give sufficient assurances to the Tunisian people when the will is to move towards a real democratic transition," told AFP Abdeljelil Bédoui, who had been appointed Minister to the Prime Minister.
- The third minister resigning is Anouar Ben Gueddour (Secretary of State to the Minister of Transport and equipment).
- Many criticisms raised in Tunisia Tuesday to denounce the presence of many members of the Democratic Constitutional Rally (RCD) party of ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, which occupy all key positions: Interior, Defense, Foreign Affairs, Finance, among others.
