Spain: 3.5 tons of hashish seized, 27 people arrested
The Spanish police announced Saturday the seizure of a total of 3.5 tonnes of hashish and the arrest of 27 suspected drug traffickers, in three separate transactions which have also resulted in the seizure of 380,000 euros in cash.
- The Catalan police proceeded to the dismantling of a major network of drug trafficking and distribution of counterfeit notes, which led to the arrest of 23 people, all from the Maghreb.
The network had fast boats for the landing of hashish on the Catalan coast (north-east) and the Balearic Islands (Mediterranean, eastern Spain). A total of 260,000 euro and 224 kilos of hashish were seized.
This network perfectly structured was also to sell fake euros which enabled it to finance operations in connection with drug trafficking and had several cells operating with a violent one in charge of intimidating, to extort and even sequester other North Africans.
The heads of the network led a luxurious life, had several properties in Catalonia and Morocco as well as luxury vehicles, said Catalan police in its release.
Another operation on the Costa del Sol (south) this time, led to the arrest of a French and an Italian, both traffickers, and the seizure of 2.1 tons of hashish, 120,000 euros cash and numerous firearms near Malaga.
Finally, in a third operation, the Civil Guard has intercepted a pneumatic boat off Grand Canaria (Atlantic, west of Morocco) with 1.2 tons of hashish on board and proceeded to arrest the two occupants of North African origin.
