118 Harraga arrested in north-eastern Morocco

  •    The crackdown was carried out in the Gourougou Forest where illegal migrants fled in anticipation of the best moment to enter Melilla, either by climbing the fence erected by the Spaniards, or by using the sea
  •    Migrants arrested Friday must be delivered to the police before being deported to Algeria, a country in which, according to the Moroccan services of fight against illegal immigration, transits the sub-Saharan Africa before arriving in Morocco.
  •    Illegal immigrants are often helped by smugglers to cross the border via road transport (cars or trucks).
  •    In 2005, fourteen immigrants died trying to cross the border, some shot dead by Moroccan and Spanish security forces, during assaults on border fences of Melilla and Ceuta, second Spanish enclave in Morocco.
