The leaders of armies of the Group 5 +5, of the Maghreb and the European Union, met Tuesday in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott. The agenda was security in the Sahel faces with terrorism, arms trafficking and drugs and where the security situation is compounded by the Libyan crisis

  • The meeting brought together the leaders of the General Staff of the armed forces of countries in the 5 +5 group, bringing together the countries of the UMA (Arab Maghreb Union): Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia, and the countries of the EU: Italy, France, Spain, Malta and Portugal. Libya which is facing an insurgency since February that has toppled the regime of Gaddafi was not presented at the meeting.
  • Military officials the 5 +5 group will discuss the proliferation of weapons and armament of the terrorist organization of AQIM following the Libyan crisis and means and mechanisms to fight against terrorism.
