Putin's candidate for 2012 presidential
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accepted Sunday the proposal of the delegates from his party to run for president in 2012.

Putin expressed his gratitude to President Dmitry Medvedev and to the Russian Congress who have chosen him to be a candidate for President of Russia. "For sure, I accept this proposal with gratitude. Thank you," he has said
The current president, Medvedev said he wanted to give way to his prime minister after the presidential election in March 2012. The head of state would then take the head of a new Russian government.
Putin left presidency in 2008 and appointed Mr. Medvedev as his successor, unable to run for a third consecutive term. But as head of government, he remained the central figure of the regime and the strong man of the country.
