The Yemeni army forces killed nine suspected members of Al Qaeda, among them Yemenis and foreigners, on the night from Sunday to Monday in Zinjibar south of the country, security sources said.

  • The army has pounded parts of Zinjibar, killing nine members of Al Qaeda, according to an official, adding that among the victims there were two Somalis, an Algerian, a Mauritanian and a Saudi.
  • The day before, four members of the terrorist organization were killed in the province of Abyan by armed men of a tribe allied with the army.
  • The Yemeni army is facing Al Qaeda organisation, supported by tribes, which controls the area of Zinjibar and part of the province of Abyan.
  • Taking advantage of the weakening of power, following the popular revolt since the beginning of the year, Al Qaeda has managed to strengthen its presence in several regions, particularly in the south and east.
