Burhan Ghalioun, president of the Syrian National Council (SNC), Saturday urged the Security Council of the UN to act by passing a resolution in order to stop the violent repression of civilians in Syria.

  • Burhan Ghalioun, president of the Syrian National Council (SNC), Saturday urged the Security Council of the UN to act by passing a resolution in order to stop the violent repression of civilians in Syria.
  •
  • For the head of the SNC, what the opposition is asking the Security Council for, are the mechanisms to protect innocent citizens, without reference to concrete action on the part of the UN, excluding any military intervention in this country.
  • M. Ghalioun said that international observers and humanitarian organizations that provide assistance to people must be protected if force is used against them. "This should not lead to war, a massive military intervention against a people or against a country," he added.
  • The Security Council UN is divided on the Syrian issue, while the Council of Human Rights of the UN passed a resolution Friday condemning the regime in Damascus for crimes committed against his people.
  • Reacting to the statement by French Minister of the Interior, Claude Gueant, according to whom Syrian opponents in France would be threatened and that security measures were taken to protect them, Burhan Ghalioun said he did not feel threatened at all.
