  • More than fifty people were killed and at least 150 others injured Tuesday in Kabul in a suicide attack against a Shia procession, celebrating Ashura, according to the Ministry of Health.
  • The attack has not yet been claimed, but the Taliban (Sunni), who accuse the Shia of heresy, prevented them from celebrating their holidays when they were in power from 1996 to 2001.
  • Based on the compilation of the figures given by different hospitals, the spokesman of the Ministry of Health declared about fifty four dead and one hundred and fifty wounded among the Shia.
  • It is the deadliest attack in Kabul since the one against the Indian embassy in July 2008 that killed more than 60 dead.
  •
  • The Ashura is one of the most sacred festivals of the Shia (a branch of Islam) who are a minority in this country.
