Obama: Al Qaeda a greater threat to Europe
U.S. President Barack Obama found Friday in Strasbourg in France that the terrorist network Al Qaeda was a threat even worse for Europe than for United States.
- Because of the proximity of its rear bases in Afghanistan and Pakistan, it is probably more likely that Al-Qaeda launched a major terrorist attack in Europe and the United States, Obama said during a Joint conference Press with the French president Nicolas Sarkozy.
France understands that the fact that Al-Qaeda operates in sanctuaries that can be used for terrorist attacks is a threat not only to the United States but for Europe, said the American president.
Mr Sarkozy for his part said that France was in Afghanistan to fight terrorism and fanaticism.
He said that France, which has deployed military reinforcements in Afghanistan last year, will not send more. However, he said, we are ready to do more to train the police and the Afghan police, in what he called the ‘Afghanization’.
