Bouguerra Soltani To Leave Government

The Minister of State without portfolio Bouguerra Soltani has requested by a letter to Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to be relieved from this function to better devote himself to his party, announced the French speaking public radio Channel III.

  •     It seems that things are moving towards a withdrawal of Mr. Soltani from the government, said Noureddine Aït Messaoudene, Mr. Soltani's Counsel to the public radio that reported a formal request from the Minister to Mr Bouteflika on this topic.

Mr. Soltani has solemnly declared that he would devote himself to the management of his party (the Movement of Society for Peace - MSP, Islamic), after a meeting of national office but with respect for the prerogatives of the President of the Republic in the appointment of ministers, said his adviser.

Re-elected on April 9 for a third term, Mr Bouteflika has not yet revised the government; the constitution does not in fact proclaim such obligation.

The MSP is a member of the presidential Alliance supporting the policy of Mr Bouteflika, composed also of National Democratic Rally (RND) and the National Liberation Front (FLN, nationalist).

Mr. Soltani is facing, for several months, a dispute within the movement led by Abdelamadjid Menasra, who announced the creation of a new party, the Movement for Preaching and change.

The problem is nothing but a war of leadership and those who claim themselves to Mahfoud Nahnah (founder of the movement of Mr. Soltani) betray his legacy by creating a structure which we do not know if it is a political party or an entity for preaching, said Ait Messaoudene.

According to him, no extraordinary congress of the MSP is expected soon, but it has not rejected the idea if major issues arise in the party.

The Islamist movement has been completely rolled in the presidential election, two representatives Djahid Younsi and Mohamed Said officially collected less than 3% of votes in total.
