Police vehicles: New Terms of Use
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), delivered a new instruction signed by the Director-General, Colonel Ali Tounsi, calling the entire staff of the sector of the police to take all the security measures to prevent the theft of police vehicles, after the increase in theft of vehicles belonging to this sector.
- This instruction comes after the theft of police executives’ cars, according to sources of Ennahar. Colonel Ali Tounsi, by the means of this instruction, which was posted at every seat of the national security, called for the use of service vehicles for personal purposes only. This requires managers and agents of the police to use these vehicles for the needs of the profession. Police personnel are required, as citizens, to respect the Highway Code. Police vehicles must be parked in front of the headquarters of security.
On the other hand, it is stipulated in the direction that in the case of contravention, the person responsible will be subject to severe penalties up to dismissal.
Note that this is not the first time a vehicle of the police is stolen. A "Volkswagen Polo" vehicle has already been stolen from a policeman in the capital by a person from the east. The latter was recovered and the thief arrested at the ‘1st May square’ in Algiers.
Terrorist groups use the stolen police vehicles to use them in terrorist operations, because of blockade exerted by the security services who tightened the noose around them through the security barriers and control operations and verification at all exits, streets and neighborhoods of the largest city in Algeria. - Ennahar/Aïcha Bouzermane
