Eight armed men sentenced to death for 'terrorism'
Eight terrorist fugitives have been sentenced to death Saturday evening in absentia by the criminal court of Boumerdes (50 km east of Algiers) for 'terrorism', according to a judicial source.
- These terrorists were convicted of forming an armed terrorist group, attempted murder with premeditation, ambush and destruction of public property with explosives.
Four more armed terrorists fleeing prosecuted for membership of an armed terrorist group, kidnapping of many businessmen in different regions of Boumerdes for ransom, were sentenced to life imprisonment during the same hearing, according to the same source.
Since early May, about 70 terrorists have been convicted by that court to prison or to death in absentia for various acts of terrorism.
The death penalty in force in Algeria has not been applied since 1993.
