10 % of Maghreb population have diabetes

10 % of the Maghreb population over 30 is affected by diabetes type 2, said Friday in Algiers specialists taking part in a seminar held by the Maghreb Federation of endocrinology and diabetes.

• The secretary general of the Algerian Diabetes Association, Dr Abdelaziz Daoud, stressed that diabetes type 2 is "very serious," as it causes the death in 60 to 70 percent of the cases due to cardiovascular troubles. The people suffering from diabetes type 1 are prone to renal failure and blindness, Daoud said.
