Drugs Shortage: 45 products have disappeared from the market

The president of the union of private pharmacists, Abed Fayçal denied the statements by the Ministry of Health about the availability of drugs on the Algerian market, confirming the disappearance of 45 drug although they are locally manufactured.

• The president of the union of private pharmacists said in an interview to Ennahar, it is time for civil society and associations of patients to move and denounce the situation of the drug’s market after the end of Pharmacies stocks stating that the official bodies and at their head the Ministry of Health were contacted for this purpose, but the situation remains unchanged for more than six months, especially since the Executive Decree on the import ban of drugs locally manufactured. This scarcity was a signal from several foreign laboratories to the authorities to cancel that decision.
  
  In the same context, Mr. Abed Faisal said that among the drugs which have disappeared from the market, there are anti-inflammatory drugs, injections for asthma, sprayers against the ills of the throat, all the antiseptic mouthwash such as Hextril.

  The spokesman for the Department of Health and Hospital Reform, said yesterday that all medicines are available on the market. Algeria, he said, would have a large stock in the central pharmacies, denying the breach of certain drugs.
  
  
  The latter, in response to a question of Ennahar related to the stock of medicines in hospitals, said that these latter have a special budget for purchasing medicines.
  
  In addition, the Minister of Health and Hospital Reform, Said Barkat, said, referring to the issue of stock of medicines, including those for chronic illnesses, that this question remains, highlighting the resurgence of all medications market to imports, and that the stock shortage was caused by some operators.
