Algeria strongly condemns the killing of the British hostage
Algeria has condemned Wednesday with ...utmost firmness... the killing of the British Edwin Dyer by Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- “Algeria has learned with indignation the assassination by the terrorist group ‘Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb,” the British national Edwin Dyer, held hostage since last January and “condemns in the strongest terms this cowardly and heinous terrorist act,” said the communiqué issued by the APS.
Algeria, which presents “sincere condolences” to the family of Mr. Dyer and the British government “pays homage” to the latter “for the firmness and responsibility it has displayed in managing this issue by refusing any haggling or payment of ransom, reportedly used to finance subversive and destabilizing activities, in the region, for this terrorist group, “says the text.
Algeria, according to the same source, reiterated its call for international cooperation to eradicate terrorism, which endangers international security and stability.
Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, led by the Algerian Abdelmalek Droukdel, announced Wednesday that they killed a British tourist, Edwin Dyer, held hostage since January.
This group is particularly active in northern Algeria where it committed numerous attacks including last Tuesday when eight policemen and two teachers had been killed near Boumerdes, a few dozen miles east of Algiers.
