Algeria - Twenty-three Harraga (candidates for illegal immigration), including an adolescent, were intercepted Sunday morning two nautical miles from ...Ras el-Hamra..., off of the Department of Annaba (600km to the east of Algiers), announced the Algerian coast guard in a statement.

  • These “Harraga” sailed from Seybouse beach aboard a boat of fortune, were intercepted at 3 in the morning by a patrol of the coast guards, alerted by a vessel flying the flag of Yemen. After the usual health checks, candidates for illegal emigration, all from towns in eastern Algeria, were presented on the same day to the prosecution of Annaba.

  • Twenty-four hours earlier, another attempt was interrupted by the Coast Guard had who intercepted 39 young people who came to the sea on board two pneumatic Canoe.
Since the beginning of the year, dozens of illegal attempts to cross into Europe, according to figures published in the press have failed after the intervention of the Algerian coast guard.

  • Thanks to the good weather conditions prevailing since May, the phenomenon of illegal emigration to Europe has grown considerably in recent times, despite the vote in February of a new law that criminalizes ‘illegal emigration” crossing attempts that expose their authors to sentences of imprisonment and fine.
