Housing program to be achieved before end 2009

ALGIERS- Housing and Urbanism Minister Nourredine Moussa asserted Saturday that one-million-housing programme will be completed before the end of 2009 in spite of lack of building materials, notably cement.

• Talking to the national television forum, Moussa stressed that this programme which falls under growth support plan for the period of 2005-2009 and the programmes for High Plateaus and the South has been materialised through "the improvement of construction companies capacity during the last three years.

• This allowed the delivery of 220,000 units in 2008 and 275,000 will be delivered before the end of the year."

• The minister added that 869,000 housing units were delivered until last 31 March, underlying that the delivery pace intensified as from the current year’s second term.
