- Algiers / Swine Influenza - According to Dr. Kamel Aït Oubali, epidemiological diseases specialist at the Department of Health and Population, the woman who came from Miami last Tuesday on a flight of Lufthansa, was suffering from the virus of swine influenza, but this case was detected three days after her arrival in Algiers, which would mean that the woman was healthy before she came since she had not been submitted, by the health services in German, to medical examination.
Dr. Ait Oubali, in a statement to Ennahar, on the sidelines of a press conference at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, on the virus of swine influenza, said the woman carrying the virus is currently in a hospital in the capital where she is supported by a medical team.
In addition, he said, all measures have been taken to avoid contamination. The latter added that her two children are not contaminated, whereas some sources in the Ministry of Health had stated that the children, one aged nine, were also suffering from flu virus.
Although it is only the first case, the preventive measures taken by the Ministry of Health and population remain inadequate, according to statements by the moderator of the conference.
The latter said in a press statement that 20 million masks, including one million which will be reserved for medical personnel are available in Algeria while the population of the country exceeds 35 millions. This would mean that there will be a war of mask.
Worse, the number of vaccines available against the epidemic is 6 million units, which means that the Ministry of Health will not even be able to take care of the cases that would be registered.
Our interlocutor said that the Ministry of Health which he represents, has prepared 53 hospitals for the management of cases expected from the swine flu. - Thermal cameras will be installed at all airports, especially those who are very busy during this period of summer holidays.
