Four police officers members of an international network of vehicle trafficking

Algiers- According to security sources, an important international network, specializing in car theft, falsification of documents and their routing through the Tunisian and Libyan borders, was dismantled by the team of research and intervention brigade of the departmental security of Algiers, more than a week ago.

  • These traffickers of vehicles also sell these vehicles as spare parts at affordable prices throughout the national territory, particularly in the departments of the west of Algeria.

    Four police officers were part of the network, which was headed by an officer of public order. According to our sources, this agent was a recidivist, who has already been tried in a case of theft before joining the police. He was behind the planning of all operations of flights and the falsification of documents in coordination with his three colleagues.

    The security services have managed to arrest three policemen; two from Mostaganem and the third from Boufarik, have been summoned by telegram. Through the confession of the officer in question, the others were arrested by elements of the BRI that have also succeeded in dismantling the network and arrest all its members.


    According to sources of Ennahar, the magistrate in the court of Cheraga ordered the preventive detention of the main defendant and his accomplices who were subject of an arrest warrant. These have been detained in El Harrach prison while the other defendants are under judicial supervision, among them the three policemen.

    The security services had received information about the existence of a network specialized in the smuggling of cars from abroad. A plan was then held, a track that led to the dismantling of the network and the arrest of all members.

    These latter performed transformations on the stolen vehicles, the doors are changed as well as the colours and the license plates. Then they used them to commit crimes. They also stole the covers petrol tanks to make keys that helped make the engine run during the flight of the vehicles.

    After the theft of vehicles, they falsify documents them with the connivance of several persons, among others, computer technicians, the mechanics and sheet metal workers before selling them at low prices.

    The team from the brigade for Research and Intervention (BRI) has succeeded; about a month ago, to dismantle another international network specialized in the trafficking of stolen vehicles, which is currently under investigation at the court of Bir Mourad Rais. A policeman from the east had been fired from the body of the police in 1993, was part of this network.
